June 2024: Wishing the best for our graduates
This marks the bittersweet end of an era! The Original Spero Lab is changing (from left to right): Melanie, Francia, Celine, Zealon, Alison, and Susannah. Celine and Zealon have officially graduated from UO, leaving the lab with big shoes to fill. We wish you all the best and know that you’ll synergize your skills for success!!! Hee hee.

The Spero Lab imparts the wonders of bacteria to the next generation of scientists… and shares collective wisdom re: conducting scientific research in laboratories.

December 2023: Local Hero Rescues Anaerobic Chamber
The Spero Lab’s own Alison Coluccio braves the interior of a decade-old anaerobic chamber in order to give this piece of equipment a new, loving home in our lab.
Note: Despite appearances, the Spero Lab is not attempting to culture humans anaerobically (just microbes).
December 2023: Holiday Cookie Decorating Party
Spero Lab art skills are on display as we generate microbiology- and holiday-themed cookies galore. Creative processes were fueled by cookies, frosting, and pizza.
